Maternity Workings?

I am a US citizen married to an Irish citizen, and we just moved back to Ireland several weeks ago. I am pregnant with our 2nd child and having a hard time understanding how hospitals and everything work here! I called a local hospital and was told that they were booked for deliveries through September and since I am due in May, the consultants can't take me on. I am already nervous since I have heard horror stories about care in the hospitals here so I want to make sure I do the right research and find the right hospital. Anyone who can offer advice or information, I would really appreciate it! Can you find a private gynecologist and still deliver at a specific hospital, or do you have to use the hospital consultants only? Thanks!!!
