Social Security

Will be eligible for Social Security soon and understand that I will have to go through the SSA office at the US Embassy in Dublin. Has anyone been through this process who can highlight the pitfalls and how to get through them? Also, are social security payments to US expats reported to the Irish Government or taxable in Ireland? Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated.
