Americans Moving with Young Family to Dublin Area

Hello,
We are relocating to Ireland in early-mid 2014. We currently live in a suburb outside of New York City and my husband will be working in Dublin (via the company he works for now so citizenship, visas. etc. are not an issue.) Any and all advice (the good, the bad and the ugly!) of moving with two young daughters (ages 7 & 4) to the Dublin area would be very helpful.

We will be renting at first, so any suggestions as to what towns? what schools to research? commute for my husband? and anything else I may not be thinking of are truly appreciated! (We went to Ireland on our honeymoon and loved it, but realize living there is a whole different ballgame.)
