Private Celtic/ Bronze Age research project

Hi, now semi retired in N. W. Devon I'd very much like to spend some time in the SW of Ireland continuing a private long term academic research project into Celtic/ Bronze Age history. This would start somewhere near the Cashel area and continue on SW, as this area is generally considered to have remained mostly free of Roman rule, as against my local Exmoor area which had been and where I've lived for 15 years or so....

Usual British passport etc. but the question is I'm not sure for obvious reasons how long this would take, so would very much appreciate some legal dos and don'ts well beforehand.

I have heard somewhere, though most likely completely misunderstood as I still can't get the connection (!) that having an Irish grandparent might be required if I plan to stay longer than 6 months, so presumably a great grandmother would do just as well instead ! lol....

Appreciate any help and advice - thanks in advance :-)
