2nd mobile phone

Since I am on a mobile phone contract that I cannot break for 6 more months, I purchased an unlocked phone and a prepaid Vodafone sim card. Now when I travel to Ireland/UK/Europe, I rely mostly on the Vodafone service and only use my AT&T contract phone when I am in a free wifi location.

When my contract with AT&T expires, I was thinking of canceling my plan and getting a 2nd prepaid plan to use for the 3-6 months each year that I am back in the States. AT&T in the U.S. offers an interesting $2 per day unlimited talk/text plus 1 cent per 5kb of data plan that does not charge for any days that you are not using your phone - e.g. not in the U.S.

This could save me a lot of money. Does anyone have any experience and/or recommendations in keeping both a U.S. and Irish mobile plan?
