Vagabonding in Ireland

Hello,
My husband and I are planning to spend 3 months in Ireland beginning in Sept. 2018 to test the waters for moving there. Any suggestions as to the best places to live for a short time. I love the west coast but am open … just want to near water. Finances are also a consideration. We would love to find a lovely cottage for about $1000 per month. Possible?
