Are Reservations Necessary?

Hello: First time posting on the Ireland Forum. I'm planning to travel for a month throughout southeast and southwest Ireland beginning in the middle of September 2018. Will I need to book rooms and lodging in advance -- in, say, Cork, Limerick and Galway, and some smaller towns, or am I safe to just wing it without reservations. I'd prefer to just stop where and when I wanted to, but didn't know about accommodations. Thanks for any guidance.
