PPS number

Hello,
I have a problem with PPS numbers that I hope someone can help me with.
I am a citizen of the EU. I will be moving to Ireland this year, and staying there for several years.
When I move to Ireland, I will be required to notify all banks and stockbrokers I have accounts with of my Irish tax file number (PPSN).
Since I will not be employed in Ireland (my income comes from investments), and I will not be a permanent resident of Ireland, it appears I will not be eligble to apply for a PPSN.
I can't imagine I'm the first person to have this problem, and I'd appreciate any advice anyone who's been though this before can give me.
