For those who chose to retire and live year-round in Ireland, how much did the weather vs. size of city/town play in choosing where you live?

For those who like to sail, are there cities/towns that have sailing communities (outside of Dublin) that a couple of new crew members would be welcomed? We enjoy sailing, but don't own a sailboat.
