Hi,
I am possibly moving to Israel in the next year or so. My boyfriend is from Haifa, and we are both excited about the idea of being close to his family and friends.
I am not Jewish and I don't speak Hebrew. I am currently learning Hebrew, but I am teaching myself with audio tapes and independent learning books, so it is not a very effective process. I am also wanting to receive my Master's Degree in the next place we move to, so I wonder how possible is it for me to go to an English speaking university? How does the job market work for people like me who have so little Hebrew speaking skills? I know how difficult such a drastic move will be (and I am sure it will be much more difficult than I can even imagine now) ...
I want to know if other Americans (or non Hebrew speaking people) who have moved to Israel have adjusted to the new culture and language and job world. Do you have any advice for me? Are there specific steps you took to be more prepared for the move or are there things you wish you knew about/learning tools that are around today that can be helpful?
This is a very broad post, so any advice helps, whether it is about jobs, friends, school, places to live, how to seek conversion classes (because I want to convert before I move), how to look into Visas, how to prepare myself better for speaking Hebrew ... Thank you!
