Journalist seeks Rome cost-cutting tips

I'm a freelance travel writer doing a piece for The Washington Post on cost-cutting tips for Europe's most expensive cities. I'd appreciate any very specific tips on Rome -- lodging, eating, sightseeing and local transportation.

Example: Cappuccinos are cheaper at the bar or counter. Buy train tickets through authorized TrenItalia agents, who dont charge a commission, or at the station.

Please post tips here or email me at [email protected]. Deadline is Tuesday, March 27. Thank you.
