I've listened to Zucchero's CDs for a few years now. A friend told me that he woul be at a very small theater near Boston and because of his great stature in Europe, felt that this information had to be wrong. Well, it wasn't and I was lucky enough to get inexpensive tickets to a show last night that I enjoyed throroughly. It was very strange because the event received nearly no advertising and it was a sell-out with MOST of the audience being Italian or Italian American. Carmine, who posts here often, might be interested to know that there was a whole row of transplanted Italians behind me from Abruzzo. The town they were from was Sant'Effemia. I thought of you and wondered whether you knew this place. By mid-concert, there was no keeping anyone in their seats -- dancing, singing, everything I miss about not being in Italy. I've lived in the Boston area all my life and was amazed at how large an Italian community still exists in the Davis Square area of Somerville, Mass. And, how many Italians are still coming to the USA. There were Italian grocery markets with all the items I need to cook with and several good Italian restaurants. Being not too far from Harvard College and MIT in Cambridge there is a nice, young fiunky quality mixed in too. All-in-all it was a wonderful night. And, the question that lingers is, "How did the 1000-seat Somerville Theater get Zucchero?" He plays at Carnegie Hall tonight!! Go figure!
