how and when to enroll in public school

Hi, I'm moving to Rome in June 2010 and am trying to locate specific info on how and when to enroll my two kids aged 6 and 5. I will be visiting in early May to find an apartment and such but fear that I might miss some enrollment period before then. I'm also a dual citizen as are my kids, if that's any help.
