farm stays!

Living each day to the fullest! Need advice on being in Italy this summer. We took a family vote and everybody wanted to go to ITALY but not stay at these 5 star hotels. My son just wants to play his guitar there 18, daughter (17)has a travel bug in her, for me the different regions, people and of course the wine and my husband all the above reasons. Anyway, been checking out: places to stay, as we would like to see as much as we can in 1 month. We are willing to work. We want to avoid hotels and expensive accomidations but would rather keep a low profile and travel light
and go to local sprting events. I have only checked out global freetrotter (sp) and cross polination, but any advice would be great!
