Moving to Lucca September 2013

Hello, my husband and I are moving to Lucca. We have dual citizenship with EU and USA. We understand the treaty with Italy on double taxation, but want to make sure we understand how it works when in a few years we will collect social security and retirement investments from USA? We prefer to pay USA taxes as Italy seems higher on the brackets. Also, does anyone pay into the Italian social security equivalent also? We want to make sure we can still contribute when in Italy and possible into retirement funds.
