Hello all,
I have been travelling to Sicily for 6 years and have been in love with it since my first trip. However, it is only recently that I have made the decision to make a permanent move to Sicily, to Taormina to be specific. I am currently in the process of researching everything as thoroughly as I can with the aim of moving there by February/March 2014. I will be speaking my mortgage advisor this week about obtaining an international mortgage; and contacting an international tax consultant, as I own a property (which I still have a mortgage on) in London, and I want to make sure I won't be eligible for duplicate taxation.
The goal is for my friend and business partner and I to buy a villa that we can turn into a Bed and Breakfast. We would like to have purchased the property by February and have any minor refurbishments completed by 1st April and open to the public mid April. I would therefore appreciate any advice on doing a thorough property search of Taormina/Mazzaro/Giardini Naxos/Villagonia. Can you recommend any good and honest estate agents? Are there any tricks to buying properties in Sicily? Any recommendations on individuals we could contact who have made the same decisions to open a B&B in the area? Any other tips?
My intention is to keep my current job, which is homebased for atleast the first year, if not 2 years, but I have yet to approach my employers about this until I have done all the other crucial research, such as being able to get a mortgage and tax implications.
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone who relocated by choice rather than their company sending them to Sicily and what the tax implications of such a decision was on their tax situation??
Basically any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Poppy2013
