Traffic Violation - Wire Transfer

Hi all. I unknowingly received a "ticket" for unauthorized entry to a limited traffic zone when I was in Bolzano last year - did so, as I was lost and trying to figure out where I was going. Anyway, they want me to do a wire transfer - my bank just informed me it will cost $40 to do the international transfer. A costly ticket, as the rental care company charged me $45 U.S. to tell the authorities about the violation. (Not sure how they know - guess someone read my license plates.) Anyway, is there a cheaper way to pay the fine? I THINK I am still within 5 days of having received the notice, but not sure. (The fine increases on day 6).
