Taxing ira's

I am a dual citizen through marriage to an Italian and a resident of Italy ( for 40 years). I recently inherited an IRA from my father . From this I take an annual distribution which is taxed in the US. My Italian accountant says I do not pay tax in Italy on the distribution but I do pay taxes on the dividends and capital gains on the stocks in the IRA account because Italy taxes all financial earnings.
Can anyone confirm this?
