Earthquake Assistance

Hello everyone

My family has a home in Aquila. It was originally owned by a man his wife and 6 children. There are only two surviving children, and they are in their late 80's. They don't want anything to do with the home, and have indicated they want the grandchildren/great grandchildren to use it at their leisure.

We have been told by a family member that the commune will be repairing the home and it's minor damages from the earthquake but they want to know who the owners are. The family member is asking if we want to continue to be part owners since we are the children of one of the deceased.

Are we not automatically part owners?

Does this make any sense?

Thank you for any assistance.
