Dynamic IP addresses

For those of you who stream tv using boxes like Apple TV or firetv or similar and find that you are having to register your IP address often, there is a free way around that. I recently switched internet provider and found that the new one, Telecom Italia, was constantly changing my ip address, sometimes several times a day. To resolve this I signed up for a Dynamic DNS service. The one I used is No-IP.com. The process is actually simple but since the instructions are poor, it makes it a bit more difficult. The process is basically as follows:

Sign up for DyDNS service and get a user I'd, password and your new Internet address. Open your routers firmware (usually by entering 196.162.1.1 in your browser). Find the dynamic dns section and enter the user I'd, password and address and select the service you are using. Save. Then go to your smart dns service and enter the DyDNS address in the appropriate space.

The way this works is that your smart dns service uses the new web address instead of your IP address. The DyDNS service works with your router to monitor the ip changes and constantly updates your new web address.

This also is good if you have web controlled security equipment and you want to monitor them from outside, like security cameras. Now instead of having to constantly monitor your IP address, you just need to remember your given web address.
