Hey there:
We are in a bit of a dilema... Our appointment for our visas is August 22nd. We were hoping to move to Siracusa. The obstacle we are facing is that the consulate in San Francisco requires a signed year-long rental contract. We are three weeks from our appointment and still have not been able to find an apartment in Siracusa, specifically Ortigia and time is running out. It may be that because we have four cats that we are not willing to leave behind that landlords are reluctant to rent to us even though we are excellent renters. Does anyone know if it is possible as a US Citizen to obtain an extended residency visa in Italy while residing in a different EU country? We are thinking that perhaps we go to Italy as planned as a tourist. Locate an apartment and then spend a month or two outside of Italy and apply from wherever we are residing. Any thoughts on this.
