Long Term rental contracts

Hello,

When I applied for elective visa in 2018 I signed a "4+4" rental contract as of August 2018. In August 2019, I complete one year of the contract. I have to move from my current commune to a new city. Is it sufficient if I give six months notice in August stating I would be leaving in January? Do I have to give a reason? Should I be worried about the landlord requiring I honour the 4-year term? Any insight/advice is welcomed. Thank you
