Beets

We live in Prov Alessandria and I can find only pre-roasted beets at the green grocer, and plastic-wrapped roasted ones at the supermercati. I cannot find raw beets anywhere. Any suggestions on how to ask for raw beets or where to find them?

On an unrelated note, the rains up here in Piemonte are unrelenting and heavy. Twice this week school was canceled in our town because of concerns about flooding. Is the weather as extreme this fall where you are?
