Bank Account/Brokerage Accounts

Hello, my wife and I are planning to retire to Umbria in a few years and are researching every pertinent topic to cover so there are no ‘gotchas’. We have our bank and brokerage accounts in the US. Are we required to open an bank account in Italy for 401k and other pension withdrawals or can we keep Schwab, for instance and pull out money (ATM) periodically and to pay our taxes (ie, property, income, etc.)? Thanks for your input
