Lease Requirements

My husband and I are going to be applying for an Elective Visa soon, however one of the requirements to obtain the Visa is to have a signed lease agreement. Since we don't plan on moving until the end of the year, we don't want to pay rent both here in the US and in Italy at the same time. Has anyone found a way around this problem? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Barbara Allen
