Where to stay in the Spring

You all have convinced me that my first foray into living in Italy should be with a Tourist Visa.

I would like to come March thru May and wondered where I should consider living. I would love a place not overly popular with tourists, near the ocean, with good springtime weather, and with good public transit for visiting the more famous sights.
