Staying in other Schengen country for more than 90 days with an Italian elective residency?

If one has a permesso di soggiorno can they spend more than 90 days in another Schengen country? Our situation is our son lives in Denmark and we would love to spend May - September in Copenhagen and the rest of the year in Italy.
