Los Angeles Consulut - VISA

Good day Everyone! My Wife and I finally got our appointment at the Los Angeles consulate for our VISA's on May 17 th , This is our first step on the path to citizenship by my GGF - I understand that when we apply we will surrender our USA passports with the application. I realized shortly after that we have travel plans to Mexico on July 1 st thus leaving only about 6 weeks to get our passports back for our anniversary trip down south for tacos and margaritas. Can anyone in the group who has done the Visa Application shed light on how much time it took to get your passports back?
