Hello everyone,
I’m well aware that the Mafia rarely poses a threat to expats or tourists. However, what I’m planning to do is permanently move to Italy (some mid-size town in either Abruzzo, Campania or Calabria) and operate my jewellery business from there. All my clients are international so it doesn’t matter which country I live in and I love southern Italy!
Is there a reasonable chance that the Mafia will try to extort “protection money” from my business? My name shows up with Google quite easily and from there it can be seen that my custom made jewellery pieces commonly contain precious gems worth tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of Euros. Obviously I would have an insurance and alarm system in place to protect my property from the common thief as I do now, but the Mafia might be a different story…
