Taking pets ( dog and cat) to Japan

So you want to bring a puppy to Japan!

Recently the Japanese Government has installed new regulations that require a dog to be quarantined for 180 days before it is admitted into the country. During this time the dog must be implanted with a microchip, receive a series of shots, and a blood test to ensure that it is freed from rabies.

This quarantine process can be traumatic as kenneling at the port of entry is often done in a sterile environment void of any socialization. The owner bears all costs for boarding, feeding, transportation, vet visits, and incidental fees. If the owner cannot care for the dog on a daily basis then he must hire someone to do so. This setup can be extremely stressful for both owner and dog alike.

Now for the good news, if you don’t want your pet jailed in a concrete kennel for six months, there is an alternative. Airpet Hotel with boarding and daycare facilities in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, provides services necessary to care for and transport your pet to Japan. Once your dog arrives in Japan, it will be held for less than 12 hours and then released to you.

This is how the program works. Pet owners can bring or ship their dog to Airpet Hotel from anywhere in the U.S. We will meet your pet at the airport and care for it in one of our friendly facilities. Here, your dog will have access to daily human socialization and ample time to play in our 6000 square feet exercise area. Your pet is fed and watered in an environment that is temperature controlled and cleaned on a daily basis. You can visit whenever you chose to.

Airpet Hotel will prepare all documentations and arrange a flight itinerary to Japan. Airpet Hotel will notify the Japanese Government 40 days prior to arrival. Our staff will arrange for your dog to receive an ISO compliant microchip and ensure that the necessary series of vaccines are given at the proper interval. A serum sample will be sent to be analyzed and a veterinary certificate of export will be provided two days prior to departure.
