Hello my cool cats and kittens,
I've got a few questions today!
What would you say is the best way to get your foot in the proverbial door to moving to Japan?
I've seen many people talk about becoming an English teacher abroad, but I've also heard mixed reviews about whether this option is worth it. Personally, while I could see myself as a teacher in my field, I don't feel super confident teaching English, especially without any training. My husband especially would not make a good English teacher, as he is dyslexic and we both have varying forms of ADHD. For context, I am a self employed artist and my husband is a parts counter salesman at a car dealership. We are both in our twenties.
How do you apply for jobs in Japan to get a sponsored move?
When looking at the different types of visas, there are options for a Japanese company to sponsor you to move to work for them. Is this common or relatively easy to do? In my mind, I imagine this is mainly for corporate jobs, but are there other fields which would sponsor one of us to move?
Is it a good idea to enroll in a Japanese language school to move abroad?
I have a very basic understanding of Japanese that I am actively learning and losing at the same time. The idea of going to a Japanese language school appeals to me greatly, as a way to learn and get myself over there at the same time. However, I worry that it might separate me from my husband and our pets. Ideally, we would be able to all move there at the same time, and find a job while we are learning. Is this something you may have done, and how did it work out? Would this be recommended?
How did you save up money to move abroad?
While my husband and I currently are building our funds, it's going much slower than we anticipated. What helped you either save or actively make money for your move?
