Apartment / House Nairobi

Dear all,

my wife and I are preparing to move to Nairobi beginning of next year with my company for 2-3 years.

I'd be grateful to receive some information on apartmemt/house issues in Nairobi as e.g.

Where do Expats usually reside ? We're looking for a "safe" area with shops,bars etc, ideally in a compound with security, health club... Do expats rather live in compounds or do you usually rent a house ? We have no kids and would prefer an apartment in a compound, however.

What rental cost do I face ?
And what are the cost of living (at expat standards) in general, compared to Western Europe ?

Are broadband/cable internet common and available in Nairobi ?
