Requesting Info On Kuwait - Before Relocating Family

14 years ago
We are an Australian family (me, husband & 2 year old son) moving from Dubai to Kuwait. We are quite familiar with the Middle Eastern culture after living in Dubai for just over 3 years.

It would be much appreciated if people could share their experience, knowledge and opinion on the following enquiries so we can get a more accurate and well rounded picture of Kuwait.

+++ Rental Prices - Villa vs. Apartment +++

I have read on average that villa rent prices are considerably higher than apartment for the same layout - as villas are in shorter supply. Can anyone give some feedback on this?

Are there options for renting split villas? For example - renting one floor of a residential villa which may contain 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, laundry.

+++ Areas To Live +++

It would be great if someone could list some different areas around Kuwait city to live in regards to:

- General demography of people living in the areas (preferably Western expats or mixed)

- Time for peak traffic, main traffic artery, noise from traffic (eg. morning & afternoon rush hour, constant busy traffic all day, school traffic etc.)

- Schools & nurseries (USA, British & International Bachelorette - short list of the top schools based on these curriculums)

- Predominantly villas or apartments available in that particular area

- Parks/play areas nearby (my son has a daily addiction to stretch his legs and release built up energy!)

- Facilities close by (eg. Big/small shopping center, restaurants, hotels, corniche walks, close to beach etc.)

Example: (please correct if anything is inaccurate)

@@@ Jabriya @@@

- NES school
- Busy around school starting/finishing time with traffic jams
- Lots of apartment blocks & private houses

@@@ Salmiya @@@

- TES school
- Busy main commercial area (shopping malls)
- Mixed expat area
- Pricier coastal apartments
- Easy access to corniche walks & scientific center on the coast
- Large Salmiya park under construction

@@@ Quieter Areas @@@

- Surra
- Qoartoba
- Nuzha
- Faiha
- Shaab

+++ Maid/Nanny +++

We would like to employ a maid/nanny in Kuwait. In Dubai people (maids/nannies) can post their services on notice boards in certain locations (supermarkets, apartment foyer) and websites. Are there similar ways to find maids/nannies in Kuwait? – Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

+++ Car Lifts +++

We are likely to get only one car for transport in Kuwait. Are there a lot of car lifts available in Kuwait?

Any other info would be much appreciated which may also jog my memory to ask other questions aswell.
