Strong American women wants to marry a man from Kuwait

Im a very American women with a slightly traditional Italian background. I met a Kuwaiti man 2 years ago while he was on holiday in the USA. Over the past 2 years he has traveled back to the USA over a half dozen times to see me. We recently started to meet in London more often and have decided we want to Marry. Because of his job and logical reasons we both agree on, the choice would be for me to move to Kuwait rather than him to the States. I'm so torn as to proceed or not. I've heard horror stories and also fairytales. Im terrified to have my children's father be Muslim as it seems I would lose them if the marriage failed. We are very much in love and if you believe in soulmates, we would be it. I trust him but I don't know if I trust the family, religion, culture and law. Any insight from EXPERIENCE is greatly welcomed. Like I mentioned I have an Italian background and even though I'm a liberal American, I can play the traditional role. I still want to work, socialize with whom I choose and be a voice in the household and amoungst his family.
