Relocating to Malaysia

Sunday
Dear Fellow members,

I’m currently residing in London, UK, and my family and I are seriously considering relocating to Malaysia. I’d love to hear your insights on suitable locations in Malaysia based on a few key factors:

1. Community and Mosque Access
We’d like to live close to a mosque that offers both men’s and women’s prayer facilities, ideally within a short commute. We’re particularly interested in a mosque that holds religious discussions and Qur’an lessons in English, as well as one that fosters a positive sense of ummah through community activities. This would be a beautiful addition to our lives, Insha’Allah.

2. Education and Special Needs Support
Our son, who is 8 years old and has autism, currently follows the British curriculum. Allahu Alam, we’re keen for him to learn Arabic, but we feel that mainstream education is essential to help him integrate into contemporary society. In London, he goes to an Islamic school on weekends (3 hours each day), which could work well for him in Malaysia too. However, getting support for children with autism is the highest priority for us.

For our 2-year-old daughter, we would like her to attend a girls’ school in the future, preferably one that balances an international curriculum with Islamic studies.

3. Lifestyle and Housing
For lifestyle, my wife has found it challenging to access facilities like a women-only swimming pool here in London. We enjoy dining out as a family and being part of a friendly community, so an area where people speak English would be beneficial (although being close to KL is not essential).

We’ve watched a few YouTube videos where people say £2000/month is a solid budget for a high-quality lifestyle in Malaysia. While this isn’t my main priority, we would love to have a spacious home (not condos or flats) with 4–5 bedrooms, as my in-laws will also be living with us. I’d really enjoy spending more time with my kids in a garden and, if possible, a small swimming pool.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post! I’d be very grateful for any recommendations or advice from members familiar with life in Malaysia.

Barak’Allahu Fee’kum!
