Years ago when we sat down and drew up our list of wants/needs for a place to settle to in Mexico we had such things as ; a Costco, a Home Depot, perhaps a Sam's and Walmart, easy access to the airport in Mexico City, a decent climate, a house we truly could enjoy, perhaps a swimming pool....
Well I have been in the pool perhaps twice since we bought our house (I do use/heat the spa), and we haven't been to the airport in maybe 4 years.
Home Depot is almost our place of last resort because the prices are simply not very competitive.
But Costco - we have been customers there (US/Mexico) for maybe 20 years. We buy the tires/batteries for our cars there. Sometimes we have been going there TWICE a week ! In the States and here in Mexico we always bought our Christmas trees there. Last year - corporate US decision, no more Christmas trees. They used to open at perhaps 9AM daily. Now it is 10AM to meet their routine in the US.
Most recently they have decided to package their 'chop meat' in something like 8 pound packages - used to be a quarter of that. For a while now we have been weening (?) ourselves off Costco and picking up similar stuff at Walmart/Sam's. Actually Walmart has a lot of meats back in the freezer that you never know about unless you ask. In the US I would NEVER have purchased meat from Walmart - but you know - their meat (which comes from Sonora) is excellent, and about 1/3-1/2 the price of Costco's US imported beef.
So - aside from complaining about Costco - I am trying to point out that very often you can find Mexican equivalent products that are superior/cheaper and perhaps we were very foolish to put a local Costco so high on our list of priorities for a place to settle in Mexico.
