Hola Expats,
Ok, I've been bitten by the 'lakeside bug'. I'm sure I'm going to live beside Lake Chapala for a good long while. Taling the advice I've received from many of you here, I am going down for a visit, hopefully in May. If only to prove that this is the place. Then, if I haven't disproved my thesis, a permanent move, lock, stock and barrel, in the fall. Say November.
So, I'm up to my eyeballs in research and I have a few questions:
I understand the TR & PR requirements from the Consular sites. I'll have to meet with MX officials within 30 days of arrival. ok fine. But after the application and interview at the home country Consulate, how long does it take to get the Visa?
And do I need to keep my Canadian passport current and up-to-date once I'm TR or PR in Mexico?
I haven't had a cell phone for a dozen years now. I know, I know, but it's true.
The advice is to get your electronics BEFORE you go to MX, so, any advice on the kind of cell or smart phone I should be aware of? Apparently there are a couple different Kinds of signals received by these things.
Also, I use a desktop at home so I'll be getting a new laptop for this adventure too. I understand internet is pretty damn good around the Lake but how do you do email? Do you get a new email address? Or is everyone on gmail?
Banking & Finance. I have a few good banks and brokerages here in Canada that I don't want to leave. Can I get a good bank in MX and transfer cash from Canada once a month? What is a smart way to handle your banking down here?
Thx for playing along so far. If any of y'all want to reply by PM that is fine too.
Buenos Dias
