Permanent Resident Visa

My wife and I are in our seventies and are buying a house in Mérida. We are interested in applying for permanent resident visas, however, we’re having a difficult time getting appointments at. The Mexican Consulate in Washington, D.C. which is the closest consulate to our home in Virginia. The consulate has an online appointment system, however, there is never an opening. When the new appointment schedule for the coming month opens, all of the appointments are filled in less than a minute, making it very difficult to acquire one of those prized slots. I’m wondering if other people are having similar difficulties?
