Traveling to MX with a dog

Looking for comments from those who have actually traveled, themselves, with their dog into and around Mexico. I'll / we'll be going to places like Rock Point, San Carlos, Hermosillo and Guaymas. Planning on staying for one or two weeks.

My puppy is 11 yrs old, in good health and about 65 pounds of fur. He's had all of his required shots and we have letters from the Vet stating that.

Will MX or - on return - US border crossing check for things like licensing, shot certificates, etc.?

Interested in all positive insights and suggestions.
