The gringo tax

When I want to hire someone to take care of our house, or buy groceries or almost anywhere else that I buy something, I often have to pay a gringo tax.

That is my name for the increased price charged to a gringo. My Mexican wife will not allow me to be visible during purchase transactions for that reason. I have to wait in the car or go into a different store or just hide. Even if I am speaking perfect Spanish, the tax is sometimes imposed.. I think it's funny.
