how safe is a trip to america?

for several months, i've planned on flying to america in april...now that the threat level is "orange" i'm seriously considering cancelling the trip...i haven't been "home" to texas in more than two years...i have to decide by the end of feb...i'm wondering if anyone can offer advice...especially if you've flown or will fly into lax in feb
