how easy is it to get work?

I am coming to NZ in sept with my husband and 2 yr old son. I haven't quite got enough points for residence yet so we are coming over on a visitors visa hoping to get a job offer to gain the points I need. We have never been to NZ before so I am hoping someone can recommend the best place place to find employment (general office work). Has anyone else gained a residence visa this way? We really are stepping in to the unknown so I would appreciate any help and advice that anyone could offer.
