Moving tips for USA sisters moving to NZ for 6 months

Hello! My sister and I will be moving to NZ on working holiday visas around November, we are very excited but also a bit overwhelmed. We want to work but both have very specific job fields (dental hygiene and graphic design) so we are open to any job we can get outside of those fields as well! Any tips on the city we should look at? We are thinking Wellington, also is it very necessary to have a car? We plan to be there 6-8 months and want to see as much as we can but did not know if a car was needed or if public transportation was good. Any tips would be great!!
