Looking to move to New Plymouth from USA

Hello,
We are looking at moving to New Plymouth for work next year, myself, my husband and our two school aged children. Looking for any advice or things to be on the lookout for in planning such a huge move. Also wondering if anyone out there has any experience with the area and how they take to American immigrants? I want to avoid my kids feeling ostracized on top of all the other changes that would come along with being in a foreign country. Everyone seems really nice and the Kiwi values seem to be in line with our own. We aren't loud crazy Americans, which I guess is how a lot of us are seen? Not sure! Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!
