Moving to NZ as a young person

Hi guys! I am planning on travelling to New Zealand in October/November of this year. After a few months of travelling both the North and South Islands my intention is to settle (short-term - 6-9ish months) to work, most likely in the hospitality industry. As a young professional I am looking for somewhere affordable but also with a good nightlife and backpacker scene. I would appreciate any recommendations :)
