moving to Oslo - rental cost?

hello All,

i am considering moving to Oslo in 2 months time (received a job offer there) and need info on how much i should expect to spend on a very modest studio or 1/B apartment in a central area there? i currently live in Hong Kong which has very high rental cost but obviously Norway is even more expensive by my own research and words of mouth.

and how about utilities cost in such cold weather? all these info will be very crucial to my decision on whether to make the move or not. i feel lucky that i'm going there with a solid job offer as i understand it's hard to find jobs without speaking Norwegian AND not a citizen of EU/EEA (American myself).

the last couple posts in this forum have some pretty strong negative opinions on expats' lives in Norway. any one would like to share more of their views to help me make an educated decision on the relocation?

i agree that one's own experience in large parts depend on what mindset and attitudes one bring to the journey, or the destination in this case. i'm moving there as a single female with no existing social network; would it be difficult to adjust? i usually don't have much worries and mental "pre-barriers" about moving to new cities that I don't face any language barrier (do speak a 2nd language fluently - just not Norwegian), but after reading all the unpack-your-suitcase-now and don't-do-it scary comments...

also, there seems to be contradictory opinions on racial and cultural tolerance in Norway. i'm Asian-American from the sunshine coast of S.Cal but have worked and lived in colder and wilder parts of Wyoming with an overall positive and pleasant experience. what are my chances in Oslo?

thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.
