Hi to all,

Never one to post on forum's I thought it best to add some of my own experiences since coming to Norway.

Having worked for four to six month periods in Stavanger in the past, I thought that I would have found it slightly easier, when a I landed a job with an oil operator for a position in Stavanger.

How wrong could I be! As an independent Contractor I have had to arrange the move on my own, and having come over to Norway earlier to do some research, I could never get a direct answer to any of my questions, and indeed I am still having to ask the same question in 20 different ways to try and get a direct answer, which I find infuriating given that the Norwegians state that they are "direct people". So far it to me, it would appear that they enjoy being difficult and unhelpful and throwing every obsticle in your path.

I landed the job in Norway as they did not have the experience in-country, it was certainly not my first choice, but was prepared to endure some difficulties along the way, however, did not expect so many.

Having lived in Aberdeen, where we too have a multi-national ex-pat work force in the Oil Industry, I would like to think that we have been welcoming and helpful to any ex-pat (well at least I have), but it does not seem to be reciprocal in Norway.

I will keep trying over the next couple of months, but I am currently losing the will to live at the moment, and will once more be on the look out for employment in other countries.

Trying not to be disgruntled, any advice?
