Tips for becomming a citizen as a homeschool family in Norway?

We would love to live in Norway long-term (become citizens) but we know that is a long road. Seven or more years of living in Norway as well as learning the language and much more about the culture. If my husband gets a work-visa and my kids attend school in Norway (or are home-schooled while naturally learning the language) will it aid our ability to apply to obtain citizenship? Also, is there a national test my home-school students would need to pass in order to graduate? They are currently doing very well at their private school in the US.
