Panama Info Please!!

I am really excited about taking a chance and moving to Panama. I have been reading and reading online and in books about this country, but I need to start hearing about it first hand from people living there. I'm glad I found this site!

It looks like many people that move to Panama are of retirement age and looking to lounge in paradise. I am not there yet unfortunately..lol.

I'm a young 28 and heard about opportunities teaching English there in the country. That sounds like something I would love to do but am a little skeptical on how easy the internet says it is. Does anyone know about or work in this industry??

I imagine I would need to live in the city where I can find a job. I am an experienced real estate broker here in the States and wouldn't mind getting into it there in Panama. But really, I just want to get a JOB. Anything that will allow me to keep a roof over my head and a full stomach. I am moving there alone so I am ready for the testy adventure!!

Anyone that can help please do. Below are a few questions that I have about Panama and I look forward to networking with everyone!! God Bless.

1. Is it true that the cost of living is much lower in Panama than in the States? I've read rumors that you can find rentals for $200 a month in some areas. I could afford around $400-$600 initially. Is this possible??

2. What is the job market like for American citizens? Is it easy to find work? What industries hire many expats? How complicated is it getting a work visa?

3. Is there a dire need for English teachers? Can one make good money doing that?

4. Besides the high rise condos lining the beaches of Panama City, where are other nice comfortable areas in the city?

5. Anyone know of an open job? :D
