Residency- do we really need costly attorneys/ facilitators?

Hi, I am new to the forum and soon to be new to Paraguay. I am sure many of us would be interested to know how your residency process has gone and the cost.
I am a person who seldom felt I received the value for the cost, that attorneys/ facilitators ask to do very basic, simple processes , such as residency or immigration. I want to build a strong data base from people like myself who are willing to spend 20 or 30 hours to save $4000.
Having navigated the Uruguayan system for $300 while recommended attorneys charge $3000 I have some basis to speak from.
I would like to hear all we can about navigating the bureaucratic food chain with the attorney/ facilitator link eliminated or kept at an appropriate level. That means hundreds of dollars not thousands!
Does anyone have experience obtaining there own residency to share?
Juan, who's post is missing now, for some unknown reason stated anyone can do their own residency process.
Let';s here form you bloggers! Ill be there in November.
Suerte!
